Golf Tournament Organization

GOLF COURSES AND TOURNAMENTS

Planning a golf tournament is a fun way to raise dollars. Golf is also a recreational sport that can promote team building. There are many forms of golf activities:
•    Retreat break
•    Team building
•    Fund raiser
•    Employee motivation
•    Reunions
•    Pure recreation

Tips:
1. Secure your golf course immediately
2. Work with your golf course professionals to determine what type of tournament will work best with your group.
3. Develop a sponsorship package early.
4. Determine what signs your golf course has available for your use, then complete your list of what else will be needed and order early.
5. Make sure you have things for your guests to do while they are waiting to tee off or waiting for the rest of the group to finish

Administration and Goal Setting

•    Planning, objectives, action plan, budget setting
•    Event planning, layout of event
•    Tournament calendar
•    Mailing list, timelines, committee assignments
•    Logo design, brochure design
•    Sponsorship packages, sales
•    Signage, prizes, auction
•    Award Ceremony

Committee Functions – A Good Working Committee Is A Must
•    Securing local clubs for the tournaments
•    Developing a calendar for planning the event
•    Establishing and obtaining prizes
•    Planning additional fund–raising activities, such as auctions and raffles
•    Solicitation of sponsors and “thank you’s” after the tournament is held
•    Arranging publicity and promotion participation
•    Provisions for proper records, including accounting, contestant entries, etc.
•    Notifying the committees of all meetings

Sponsorship Development
•    Design packages
•    Solicitation, sales, contact list
•    Pro/Am packages

Sub–Committees
•    Sponsorship committee: secures sponsors
•    Publicity committee: news releases, media exposure
•    Prize committee: set and obtain tournament prizes and tee gifts

Volunteers
•    Contact charities to help with parties, day of event registration, etc.

Format for Days of Play
•    Sponsor contests, putting contest
•    Tournament play, format of day’s play, hole–in–ones
•    Catering services
•    Layout signage
•    Awards, auction
